YOUTH DAY AT STEWART STATE FOREST

     Every year young hunters and hunters who are young at heart gather at Stewart State Forest for a special Youth Hunt Day. The Federation helps coordinate this event and volunteer time to help supervise and run the event. The volunteers have fun cooking helping the young hunters. Free food and fixings are provided. Several of out members bring their dogs so that each group can hunt the fields in Stewart that have been stocked with Pheasant and Quail. For many of the young hunters, this is the first time that they have hunted with a dog. The following are some of the general rules:

• SUNRISE UNTIL SUNSET
• Every Hunting Party MUST have at least one person who possesses a JUNIOR HUNTING LICENSE (12 - 15 YEARS OLD)
• Minors age 12 - 13 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or relative over age 21 who holds a Small Game hunting license or Sportsman license AND is designated in writing by the parent.
• Minors age 14 - 15 must be accompanied by a parent OR person over age 18 who holds a Small Game hunting license or Sportsman license AND is designated in writing by the parent or legal guardian.
• Junior Archers (14 - 15 years old) must be accompanied by a licensed Big Game hunter (archery stamp affixed to license) at least 18 years old with 1 year of big game hunting experience.

You WILL NOT be admitted to the property without a Junior Hunter in your party.

All Normal Hunting Regulations for the Stewart Area will apply.

The day starts early and the first thing after everyone checks in is to go over all of the safety rules and regulations. Safety for the kids, adults and the dogs are our most important concern.

It takes the hard work of many volunteers to make all of these events a success. We want to thank them for their help.

The DEC does a great job with these events and without their help we could never have events such as these.
