YOUTH DAY AT STEWART STATE FOREST

Meet at 3 Weed Rd. Entrance to Stewart State Forest from Route 207

Every year young hunters and hunters who are young at heart gather at Stewart State Forest for a special Youth Hunt Day. The NY DEC and the Federation coordinate this event and volunteer time to help supervise and run the event. The volunteers have fun cooking and helping the young hunters. Free food and fixings are provided. Several of our members bring their dogs so that each group can hunt the fields in Stewart that have been stocked with Pheasant and Quail. For many of the young hunters, this is the first time that they have hunted with a dog. The following are some of the general rules:

ALL SAFETY RULES AND NY LAWS AND HUNTING LAWS MUST BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES!
ALL YOUTH HUNTERS MUST BE FROM 12 TO 15 YEARS OLD.
EACH YOUTH IS ENCOURAGED TO PRE REGISTER USING THIS DEC LINK
OR PLEASE CONTACT JIM TORCIVIA AT 845-467-5539. (Birds will be stocked the day before the hunt with an additional two birds for each registered youth registered using the THE DEC WEBSITE LINK so please register.)
ALL REGISTRANTS AND ACCOMPANYING ADULTS MUST SIGN A "HOLD FAULTLESS" WAIVER.
ALL REGISTRANTS AND ACCOMPANYING ADULTS MUST USE BLAZE ORANGE.
PARTICIPANT/PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST PROVIDE THE YOUTH PARTICIPANT WITH THEIR OWN GUN AND AMMUNITION. ONLY THE YOUTH ARE ALLOWED TO HUNT, ADULTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING A SEPERATE SHOTGUN.
Hunt last from 7 AM to 2 PM
A light breakfast will be served at 7:00 AM and lunch will be served from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the old Weed Rd. check station. Coffee, Juice, Water, Rolls & Donuts in the AM and Hot Dogs, Burgers, Snacks and Drinks in the Afternoon.
Every Youth Hunting MUST POSSESS a valid hunting license.
Each Youth must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or relative over the age 21 that possesses a Small Game hunting license or Sportsman license.
All accompanying adults who are not a parent or legal guardian must hold a letter of prior approval(s) issued by the parent or legal guardian.
All Normal Hunting Regulations for the Stewart Forest will apply.

You WILL NOT be admitted to the Hunt without a Junior Hunter in your party.

VOLUNTEERS

All Federation Members are volunteers. This Youth Hunt and other Federation activates would not be possible without the donations of time, items, resources and financial donations from Federation members, local clubs and individuals. If you wish to make a donation to the Federation for this Youth Hunt or any other Federation Activities, Please contact the Federation or your club's representative to the Federation.

With this Youth Hunt we especially need people with
trained dogs to take to the field with the youth hunters.

The day starts early and the first thing after everyone checks in is to go over all of the safety rules and regulations. Safety for the kids, adults and the dogs are our most important concern.

It takes the hard work of many volunteers to make all of these events a success. We want to thank them for their help.

The DEC does a great job with these events and without their help we could never have events such as these.
